You may remember him as the young artist who jumped on stage with Keith Urban in Sydney in December 2022, but Jamie Preston is back in the spotlight with his debut single, “Take It Slow.”

“Take It Slow” is a reflection of his diverse musical influences.

“Morgan Wallen was one of the main artists I was listening to when I wrote this song,” he said.

“It’s about the ups and downs of love that many people can relate to, even if they might not know how to put those feelings into words.”

The song was initially written solely by Jamie, but he collaborated with award- winning artist and mentor, Lyn Bowtell, to fine-tune and bring out the best in it.

“We swapped some things around to create a perfect balance,” Jamie added. “Take It Slow” is a song that tells the story of a hesitant romance.

With a unique blend of heartfelt storytelling and contemporary country pop sounds, Jamie aims to bring in listeners far and wide.

“There was a girl who I met, and the song is about love, falling in love, and wanting to give it a shot, but also about playing it cool, taking things slow,” he said.

What sets this single apart is Jamie’s ability to create music that is both familiar and refreshingly new.

“I wanted to create something relatable, something that many people would feel but might not know how to express,” he said.

“I aim to connect with the audience through my music. I’d like to get this song out for everyone to hear and make my first mark on the country music scene, with hopes of eventually reaching the global country music scene.”

“Take It Slow” is not Jamie’s first foray into the music world; he gained recognition as the winner of the Today’s Country 94One Brand New Star competition and had the opportunity to record the single with renowned producer Simon Johnson.

Jamie described this experience as “really cool” and a great learning opportunity.

“He understood the way my mind worked and what I wanted to get out of the song, which made the recording process easy,” he said.

As Jamie continues to build his career, he’s already been making his mark on the local music scene. You can catch him performing regularly at The Beer Shed, a popular venue in Sydney. In December, he is set to open for the renowned country trio Petric at the venue.

Looking ahead, Jamie has big plans for his music career.

“The whole sound of ‘Take It Slow’ and the way it made me feel convinced me that it was the perfect first song,” he said.

“I love the vibe of it, and I knew it would be a great introduction to my style. I’m always looking to change it up, and my heart is set on country pop, which is what I’m into and what I enjoy listening to.”

As he balances his music career with his studies, Jamie is currently in Year 10 and plans to finish his HSC before diving into music production.
