The highly regarded folk, country, and blues singer-songwriter Claire Anne Taylor’s third solo album, Giving It Away, is soon to be released by Cheatin’ Hearts Records on February 16th.

With today’s release of Lay You Down in the Cold Hard Ground, Taylor—dubbed “the voice of Tasmania”—follows up on her recent track Keep On’ Truckin’ with another taste of the album. The video for the single captures the intense energy of Claire and the band performing this blues-infused, raw, and soulful song live.

The album features Claire Anne Taylor accompanied by some of Tasmania’s best musicians, and it was recorded at MONA’s Frying Pan Studios in Tasmania by Chris Townend (Ngaiire, Portishead, Tim Finn). Claire plays rhythm guitar and vocals, Beau Thomas plays drums, Jethro Pickett plays lead guitar, Randal Muir plays keys, and Hanna Czaban, Lilly Sideris, and Nkechi Anele provide harmony.

“This album is a deeply personal one for me, and comes from a huge time in my life; following my son’s diagnosis with Angelman Syndrome. I guess you could say I took all my grief and anger and put it into my music and this has been my therapy and an escape of sorts.”  Claire says of the album.

On signing Claire to the award-winning label Cheatin’ Hearts, label founder Luke Woods
says; “It is a completely visceral experience listening to Claire’s music – you feel it deeply.
This new album lands somewhere in that sweet spot between blues-country-soul and is a
massive statement from Tassie’s finest. We feel like it’s going to be an instant Australian
classic and we couldn’t be prouder to be releasing it on Cheatin’ Hearts.”

A 36-date national tour in support of the single and album has already begun this year for Claire Anne Taylor, who is a favourite on the National Folk Circuit and a recent winner of the National Live Music Awards’ “Best Live Voice.” The tour stops at numerous festivals around the country, including Gum Ball, Woodford Folk, Cygnet Folk, Nannup Music, and many more.
